Fan Shroud Replacement - Upper

Removal Procedure





1. If equipped with a 4.31- engine, perform the following:
^ Loosen the air cleaner outlet duct clamps at the following locations:
- Throttle body
- Mass Airflow/Intake Air Temperature (MAF/IAT) sensor
^ Remove the air cleaner outlet duct wingnut.
^ Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
Pivot the resonator end of the duct upward until the hinge clip releases from the lip on the throttle body.





2. If equipped with a 4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L engine, perform the following:
^ Loosen the air cleaner outlet duct clamps at the following locations:
- Throttle body
- MAF/IAT sensor
^ Remove the radiator inlet hose clip from the outlet duct.
^ Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.





3. If equipped with the 8.1L engine, perform the following:
4. Loosen the air cleaner outlet duct clamps at the following locations:
^ Throttle body
^ MAF/IAT sensor
5. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.





6. It equipped with the 6.0L, 6.6L, or 8.1L engine with the Regular Production Option (RPO) M74 transmission, remove the engine harness clip from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) cover.





7. If equipped with the 6.0L, 6.6L, or 8.1L engine with the RPO M74 transmission, remove the Transmission Control Module (TCM) cover bolts.
8. Lift up TCM cover to unclip the cover from the fan shroud.





9. If equipped with the 6.0L, 6.6L, or 8.1L engine with the RPO M74 transmission, loosen the TCM electrical connector bolts.
10. Disconnect the TCM electrical connectors (1).
11. Remove the TCM and cover.
12. Reposition the TCM electrical connectors.





13. If equipped with the 4.81L, 5.3L, or 6.0L engine, reposition the inlet hose clamp at the radiator.
14. Remove the inlet hose rosebud clips from the following locations:
^ Fan shroud
^ Air cleaner outlet duct
15. Remove the inlet hose from the radiator.
16. Reposition the radiator inlet hose.





17. Remove the fan shroud retainers.





18. Remove the fan shroud bolts
19. Remove the upper fan shroud.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the upper fan shroud.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the fan shroud bolts.
^ Tighten the fan shroud bolts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).





3. Install the fan shroud retainers.
4. Reposition the radiator inlet hose.





5. If equipped with the 4.81L, 5.31L, or 6.0L engine, install the inlet hose to the radiator.
6. Position the inlet hose clamp at the radiator.
7. Install the inlet hose rosebud clips to the following locations:
^ Fan shroud
^ Air cleaner outlet duct





8. If equipped with the 6.0L, 6.6L, or 8.1L engine with the RPO M74 transmission, reposition the TCM electrical connectors.
9. Connect the TCM electrical connectors (1).
10. Install the TCM and cover.
11. Tighten the TCM electrical connector bolts,
^ Tighten the TCM electrical connector bolts to 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.).





12. If equipped with the 6.0L, 6.6L, or 8.1L engine with the RPO M74 transmission, push down the TCM cover in order to clip the cover to the fan shroud.
13. Install the TCM cover bolts.
^ Tighten the TCM cover bolts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).





14. If equipped with the 6.0L, 6.6L, or 8.1L engine with the RPO M74 transmission, install the engine harness clip to the PCM cover.





15. If equipped with the 8.1L engine perform the following:
^ Install the air cleaner outlet duct.
^ Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamps at the following locations:
- Throttle body
- MAF/IAT sensor
^ Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamp screws to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).





16. If equipped with a 4.81L, 5.3L, or 6.0L engine, perform the following:

Important: Align the arrow at the throttle body end of the duct with the throttle body attaching stud.

^ Install the air cleaner outlet duct.
^ Install the radiator inlet hose clip to the outlet duct.
^ Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamps at the following locations:
- Throttle body
- MAF/IAT sensor
^ Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamp screws to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).





17. If equipped with a 4.3L engine, perform the following:
^ Install the air cleaner outlet duct. Align the hinge clip with the lip on the throttle body. Pivot the air cleaner outlet duct and resonator downward until the mounting stud is through the hole.
^ Install the air cleaner outlet duct wingnut.
^ Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct wingnut to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.).
^ Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamps at the following locations:
- Throttle body
- MAF/IAT sensor
^ Tighten the air cleaner outlet duct clamp screws to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).
